Case Study - Audley End Minature Railway
Propel supports Audley End Miniature Railway in its green transition by financing a new electric mini locomotive, paving the way for a more sustainable future.
Founded in 1964, Audley End Miniature Railway is a family-run business and one of Essex’s top visitor destinations, drawing an average of 2,000 visitors per day during peak seasons. Alongside the railway experience, they also provide a children's park for guests to enjoy.
After being referred to Propel by Barclays Business Banking, Audley End Miniature Railway secured £180,000 in funding, enabling them to replace a nearly 50-year-old steam-powered miniature locomotive with a state-of-the-art electric model - marking the development of their first electric mini locomotive.
This new electric locomotive, the first of its kind in the UK, represents a major milestone in the company’s transition toward greener operations. It features rapid charging capabilities and a battery life that allows it to complete 10 consecutive journeys around the track, offering a more efficient and sustainable option compared to the diesel and steam locomotives previously in use.
“We're thrilled to partner with Propel Finance to bring our electric locomotive to life, enhancing the Audley End Miniature Railway experience for all. This collaboration marks a step forward in sustainability and innovation, ensuring our trains continue to delight for years to come."
